How to clean corsets?

First, do not clean your corset too often: The less you clean your corset the longer it will last and look like on the first day. Never wash or dry your corset in the machine! Before hand washing your corset, please consider the cleaning advice of the corset designer. We summarized these for you:

  • Revanche de la Femme makes use only of high quality stainless stell corset bones and busks. It is allowed to hand wash her corsets (detailed advice see below).
  • Corsets of Axfords and Vollers must not washed at all. The reason why is that these corsets are not (or not only) stiffened with stainless steel bones and busks. As you can read on the lining, you should only dry clean Vollers and Axfords corsets. Leather corsets should only be cleaned by a leather specialist.
  • Due to a special production technique when fixing upper material on the lining, the material of Loratus-corsets could be only minimal wrinkled around the bones when laced. The disadvantage is however, that these corsets must not been washed, only dry cleaned or locally wet cleaned with a wet sponge and a bit liquid soap.
  • Corsets of Erotex (Nobles, Stilett, Extravagant, Classic, Romantika, Silouet und Eleganz) are stiffened with rostproof metal bones and busks so you can gentle handwash them like described below.

If the corset manufacturer allowes hand wash, then try it first only with cold or luke warm water. Wet the dirty part with some water and rub careful with your fingers the fabric. If you don't wait hours or days but remove the stain immediately, then you will have success this way. To remove stubborn stains you should take additionally a bit liquid soap, and then remove the residual soap in order to avoid any color change of the fabric. Should these effort stay unsuccessful, lay the corset flat in luke warm water with some liquid mild detergent for max. 1 hour long and rub then careful the dirty part with your fingers. Afterwards flush the corset once or twice in cold water to remove residual detergent. Push careful all the water from the corset and lay the corset on a towel to dry. Never expose it to sunlight to dry!
